MISSION
Curbs and Stoops is an art blog and publication that is working towards increasing the accessibility of art across a diverse range of socioeconomic and cultural communities. Like our name suggests, we believe art should be everywhere including the thresholds that define our cities; our curbs and our stoops. This way, art is not a destination, like going to a museum. Instead, it is a part of our everyday journey.
We fulfill our mission by implementing public art projects, limited edition print releases, exhibitions, and community installations. We attempt to exploit the extents of interactive media in order to provide fine art to those who cannot afford gallery prices. We believe in the necessity for the accessibility of art. Art is not only for bankers and heiresses.
TEAM
Jeffrey Peña
While growing up in the graffiti mecca of the South Bronx, Jeff became interested in a society’s need to create a visual language that connects with the pedestrian experience. A decade later, Jeff started Curbs and Stoops while interning at the Luggage Store Gallery (San Francisco, CA) in order to share the way that urban life can be enhanced by public art. Jeffrey has a Bachelors degree in architecture from Northeastern University. He is currently pursuing a Masters of Architecture at Rhode Island School of Design where he is also doing a concentration in Print Making.
Chloe Gallagher
Chloe came to Curbs and Stoops after working as a curator at Fenario Gallery in Eugene, Oregon. An ardent art lover with a degree in Art History from the University of Oregon, she has since relocated to Portland where she does independent curation through a number of venues. Chloe is a self-described “talent addict” and when she’s not obsessively scouring the internet for fresh new art and taxing the outer reaches of her thesaurus she can be found collecting music, relentlessly scrawling in black books and pondering the next big thing.
