Dis­tinc­tion Gallery and ArtHatch present a com­pelling new show fea­tur­ing the extra­or­di­nary work of Lat­vian artist Jana Brike, enti­tled “Book of Taboo”. Draw­ing inspi­ra­tion from children’s books, Soviet ani­ma­tion, Russ­ian real­ism, and Renais­sance mas­ters, Jana Brike will be exhibit­ing brand new paint­ings and draw­ings cre­ated specif­i­cally for this show. Using haunt­ing, dream-​like, sub­tle images, Brike achieves a poetic and mag­i­cal sym­bol­ism of the bizarre and com­pli­cated world that sur­rounds us. Jana Brike will be attend­ing the show with com­bined sup­port from ArtHatch and the gov­ern­ment of Latvia who is extremely impressed with her art. Coin­cid­ing with the show, Jana Brike will be par­tic­i­pat­ing in a Q&A Ses­sion the evening of the recep­tion on Sat­ur­day May 14, 2011 from 6 – 7 pm at *ArtHatch, for­merly Dis­tinc­tion. The open­ing recep­tion will be held on Sat­ur­day, May14, 2011 from 6-​10pm with Live Music, com­pli­men­tary Stone Brew­ery Beer and wine for guests 21 years of age or older.
